Gout Relief Remedies

An effective gout treatment plan is two-fold: managing the pain during acute gout attacks and reducing uric acid to prevent future attacks. Most patients are prescribed gout pain medication to get rid of the pain. Most common prescription drugs include colchicine, non-steriodal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID’s), steroids and allopurinol.

Cherries and its extract are another very effective and very popular remedy for gout pain. Cherries are rich in anthocyanins just like black beans. Anthocyanins which are a kind of flavonoids are proven to be good anti-inflammatory agents. Cherries also contain powerful anti-oxidants. Anti-oxidants protect the cells from harmful free radicals that cause damage and death.

Flax seed is also another natural gout relief remedy. It contains high amount of Omega 3 fatty acid, proven to lower cholesterol and possessing anti-inflammatory properties. Flax seed is crushed and both the oil and the powder are added to food.

Stinging nettles are very popular even during the medieval times when they are slapped into joints swollen from arthritis-like conditions. Nowadays however there are far less painful options. The leaves can be chopped for application into swollen joints. They can be also brewed into tea, infusions or tinctures. Stinging nettles are very effective in treating chronic inflammation, not only gout but other arthritis-like conditions as well.
